LE PRADAL

THE GOOD LIFE

Snuggling against the foot of a hill and facing directly south, the village of Le Pradal embodies the notion of Mediterranean dolce vita. After centuries of splendid isolation, the past few years have seen the construction of numerous new houses, proof if any was needed of its new-found attractiveness. Drystone walls, terraced fields where vines are still cultivated, cherry trees and chestnut trees make up the principal landscape features. In this postcard-pretty décor which is simply begging to be explored, a chat with the local people will soon have you admiring the beauty of the Devil’s Bridge, enjoying chestnuts grilled over a wood fire, or gathering some of the delicious wild asparagus which grows by the wayside.

THINGS TO SEE :

DEVIL’S BRIDGE

Around half a mile from Villemagne-L’Argentière, on the road to Saint-Gervais-sur-Mare. This eighteenth-century bridge, a listed monument of regional historical interest, was built to facilitate the transport of coal by cart from Graissessac to Hérépian glassworks. The interesting feature about it is that slopes because of the difference in level between the two banks of the Mare. It is a hump-backed bridge nevertheless and is supported by two arches.
